I'm an aspiring science fiction writer living in College Station, Texas. I've been tinkering for years,
but I got serious after I graduated from the University of Houston in 2003. I've been submitting to
magazines since then, but I haven't gotten
published...yet. ;)
I have had some good luck. I got First Runner up in the
2004 Isaac Asimov Undergrad contest,
I made it to the finals in
the
2006 L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest,
and the semi-finals in the 2007 contest. Another of my stories nabbed Honorable Mentions in the
2008 and 2009 contests. My short story, "Flame Unfettered", is scheduled to appear in the upcoming
Pretty Scary
Anthology of Women in Horror. Details about that can be found
here.
I turned the short story that placed in the Asimov contest into a novel,
Community, and I've written a
sequel,
Paladins of the Storm Lord.
I've finished a follow-up to that,
The Third Level, set on the same world.
Currently, I'm working on a totally different project called
Signal.
I have a writing sample up here for you to enjoy, a story I wrote several years ago that might be too odd to fit
in any magazine, so I
thought I'd put it here for people to see as an example.
It's called
Titanomachy, and I hope you enjoy it if you decide to read it.
For something a little lighter and definitely more caustic, see
My Thoughts on Writing which I hope to update often.
I highly recommend writing groups. If you're looking for one in Houston, (particularly the Fort Bend to Cypress
district) try
Writer's Ink.
Keep writing all you people. Remember what Jeff Herman said, "No rejection is fatal until the writer walks away from the battle, leaving the
written work behind, undefended and unwanted."
